Yes, I have mine installed in a closet/cabinet in the basement and the sub is one floor up in the living room. Haven't had any issues.

The unit will work through walls. Typical range is 45 feet but could be a little less through walls. Also make sure you don't have a lot of electrical wires running through the wall - it might affect your signal strength.
