“Is a cable tv subscription needed or just internet connection?”

• All you need is Internet. However, some channels may cost extra. I think my wife and I picked up HBO for roughly 15$/month. But there are quite a few free channels. If you have cable or satellite you may be able to sync your provider to your roku, and get the channels you're already paying for, with no additional charge.

• Just an internet connection...cable tv subscription is just an option, but not necessary to stream some channels.

• Just internet. But you can subscribe to some services. But they are optional theres a lot of free content
