I was using my laptop for streaming vid to my tv, this is way faster easier and prevents wear n tear on my PC. But make sure you have decent internet...basic DSL is not enough. Powers on and connects automatically so one less thing to switch on. Also the phone remote app you can download is pretty slick

Cable vs Roku!

Don't get me wrong cable's amazing, but it really comes down to how much you are willing to spend . . . The Roku 2 works great; it's easy to install, interface is simple to use, and subscription rates are a fraction of the cost compared to cable. If you are on a budget, and debating on cable vs Roku, definitely go Roku.

I have a HTPC running Emby... my wife kept complaining that the setup was not user friendly (specially because of the lack of a good remote control). So I bought the roku-2 and now my wife is happy and I still have access to Emby (thru a roku app)... everyone is happy.

I purchased the Roku 2 for streaming Netflix and I couldn't be happier. Never had a smart tv so new to streaming. I did a little research on all the brands and decided on the Roku 2. I believe I made the right choice. It was easy to setup and use, Can connect to home network via network cable or wireless and came with a remote( I did not want to use my phone as remote). My only negatives, no on/off switch and you have to supply a credit card# to activate the Roku even if you never plan on charging anything. That being said I would recommend the Roku 2 to everyone. Great 1080p picture and never buffers or lags.

I found the Roku 2 newer model very easy to install and it is super fast, you click it reacts. Large amount of channels, content loads fast and every channels picture is perfectly clear. I like the way the remote is compact and simple and the box is also compact and easy to put near the tv, taking up barely any room. Very happy did my research and got this model and not the one down. Well worth the money and great buy!

Step One for Cord Cutting

Love the speed and ease of manipulation. Set up is pretty intuitive. Some stations cannot be viewed unless I have cable TV and the reason for getting Roku in the first place was so I could cut the cords. Also, news programing is done in blocks, in increments of a minute or so as opposed to an entire program although some news programs do stream just look for streaming . That may just be the way things will be from now on.
CBS news seems to be the one exception. You get a 30 minute block of news with commentary and analysis. Yea for CBS.
Compared to the Amazon Fire Stick, this is much faster and allows MANY more options including Vudu, Rdio, Sling, Crackle and a host of others. (Both offer Hulu and Netflix).
One great point is the design of the remote. It is round on the bottom and easy to hold. Keys are large enough to press without hitting two.
I purchased this from Best Buy on 22 July 2015.

When we started losing some functionality with Netlix and Hulu with our older BluRay player for streaming, we thought we'd try the Roku. It has been great so far. It's small, no trouble setting it up, and everything on Hulu and Netflix seems to work well. There's even an app to play PBS shows and other things that make streaming easier and reduce the number of times we have to play these shows through our laptop.

Very simple device to use, and very customizable. With three different models you can connect to a variety of TV's in multiple ways. It lets you make a smart TV out of almost any TV - old or new. A nice feature is that when it is registered (automatic part of the simple setup), you can add additional roku devices to other TV's on the same account, and all of the apps and passwords are automatically loaded into each additional device without going through the process over again.

Prior to getting this, I used my wife's Blue Ray because she likes the DVD aspect. I got this ROKU just to experiment. Initially, it was overwhelming but only for about a minute. The 2000 streaming channels are so well arranged and organized that it seems like far fewer, but alas that is the beauty of ROKU 2.
You choose from the streaming channels, and can even follow movies coming soon. To do this just put the movies into your ROKU "folder" for them and when the movie is released for free or reduced price you will be alerted. There are many free channels, easy ways to buy or watch films from top providers, and no additional charges to watch streaming services like Netlfix or Hulu Plus if you already subscribe. And if you have cable, Roku players bring new ways to watch based on your cable subscription.
The remote control has a great feel to it. Although small, the under side (that fits your hand) is sized just right. The buttons are spaced far enough apart that you aren't constantly hitting two buttons at once. The remote is very user friendly. When you miss a phrase and rewind the 7 sec button the words you missed are printed on the screen so that you can read it. Switching to reading script is easy too, one press of a button. Less fuss that most TV's.
Due to the speed of this device, buffering and program lags are rare if at all.
Other features such as settings for time, and screen savers are easy to program and require little to no instruction. Just follow the buttons. Some of the channel sign ups are a bit clumbsy but since they are not uniform I think they are set by the channels themselves and not by ROKU who has a great sense of organization and user friendly controls.

We have had at least one Roku in our house of every version. Nowadays we have two in active use; a Roku 3 and this Roku 2 for my daughter's room.
Without a shadow of a doubt Rokus are the best streaming TV and movie devices available. I've had an Apple TV, not a great experience and still have an Amazon FireTV stick which I found to have a clunky interface and fairly unreliable.
The Roku 2 is definitely a sensible choice if you're looking to pay slightly less than the all singing all dancing Roku 3 which adds very little unless you're into gaming using the Roku (which we're not) or want a headphone socket on the remote control (which we have on our Roku 3 but find we never use).
The Roku 2 is a fairly good step up in performance from the Roku 1 and it's worth the extra cash just to get the additional features and performance but you really can't go wrong with any of the Roku devices - they only really do one thing and they do it extremely well.

I have used a Roku when they were first produced which I had great experience with. This Roku 2 has definitely exceeded my expectations with performance, ease of use, and easy connectivity. I highly recommend this to anyone who has a Netflix streaming subscription, Hulu Plus, or Amazon Prime. The device comes with a remote, you can also download the app on a smartphone and use the app as a remote.

I am a Senior Citizen. The $59 Roku is just right for my needs. It was easy for me to install. I had to buy a USB connection cord, but that was it. I especially love the small size of the Roku and the remote control that came with it. There is even a NETFLIX button on the remote! Working great for me. LOVE IT!

I purchased this a month ago after reading reviews of the Roku Stick/1/2/3 and Amazon Fire Stick. Roku seemed more flexible than Amazon relative to the streaming services offered/supported. It has worked flawlessly. Set-up was easy. I chose the 2 for the Ethernet port and have it hard wired into my router. With this set up, I have had no streaming lag .

Before purchasing the Roku, I had a Netgear NeoTV, which died. I like the Roku much better. The graphics are nicer, and it recommends LOTS of movies and tv shows that i inevitably want to watch. The NeoTV kept recommending the same things for months at a time. The Roku has a huge supply of different choices. It's easy to use and doesn't disconnect from the internet like my NeoTV did. I DEFINITELY RECOMMEND buying the RoKu. You'll love it!
