It is an input port and is needed if your television doesn't include an HDMI port with ARC.

It takes the audio from the digital optical output on your television.

Hello RokuAudio! The Streambar allows for one of two connection options. One, connect the included HDMI from the Streambar to the ARC HDMI port on a TV.
