“Is the Digital Optical port for input from another source, is it passive and used for output to an Audio Receiver? Also, if it's an output to a receiver, what channel does it broadcast in? Dolby 5.1 example?”

It is an input port and is needed if your television doesn't include an HDMI port with ARC. It takes the audio from the digital optical output on your television.

One, connect the included HDMI from the Streambar to the ARC HDMI port on a TV. Two, if ARC HDMI Port is not available, a HDMI and Optical Cable connection is required.
