Yes, this is exactly the reason I went with the Streambar one of my displays also didn't have an audio out option. All the Roku apps sound great and I haven't used it but you can stream audio from your phone as well.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Answering my own question. Just tried out tha streambar with my projector and it works! So if you have a projector/tv without arc support or optical you CAN still use this. You will get sound from the roku apps. You just won't get sound from anything else connected to tv, like cable/atenna/blu ray. But if you are all streaming anyway, it works perfectly with just a regular hdmi cable.
