• You do no have to have a smart TV. The Roku stick turns it into a smart tv. The headphones unplug from the remote. When they are plugged in, the sound on the tv is muted. When unplugged, the sound flows through the tv. My tv is olkd, and this works quite well. You do need the internet,

• They're all great. But I reccomend the remote that comes with the headphones. Yes, they're detachable.

• Don't know about the tv not being a new one but do know the ear buds do not detach.

• The earbuds are attached to the remote through a standard headphone plug and are not permanently attached to the remote nor the roku stick.

• If you have HDMI input on your TV, all Roku devices will work on it. Each device has different features you might like to have like the earbuds with a built in headphone jack for private listening, this feature is available on select models and are detachable.
