I was able to use this on the Western Digital 1 TB Hard drive in the 2nd drive slot however I had to work with it a little as my drive had to metal screen anchors that didn't allow a straight snap on. I had to use a device to clone the Samsung SSD 256 GB M.2 boot drive. I sent my Lenovo legion 5 to the depot for repairs and they said the mother board need to be repair to fix the not powering on issue.

I'm not so sure whether it can be done with your laptop turned off. My laptop is also a Lenovo (I'll never buy Lenovo again) a friend who is a computer engineer, he did the job for me using this product to transfer data from the old regular hard drive to the new SSD hard drive I also bought at Best Buy. Now my laptop works even better then when it was brand new!!!

As long as the hard drive in the laptop has a SATA interface, this should work fine.
