See my review about limitations of Chrome OS. Chrome books have no DVD or Hard Drive. Only moving parts are the screen hinge and the keys, so a protection plan is NOT needed. OK for browsing and email plus Google apps.

They have built in protection against malicious virus and software and are reliable and they feel well-crafted. However, it wouldn't hurt to buy extra insurance protection for one's peace of mind though.
