Hi Lee: If the light isn't coming out of the cable with one end plugged into the TV, then it's nothing to do with the HW-T540 soundbar. It's either a bad cable, or the TV isn't outputting the signal. There may be a setting in the TV where you have to enable the optical output instead of TV speakers. Samsung TVs have this feature. ^Patty
