This TV is I guess what you would call a plug and play in that you do not have to download some apps but it does allow you to download apps that you may want but is not already downloaded to the system. Smart TV's are those that are able to receive internet connections that allow you to download apps and not rely on streaming systems like ROKU and the such. You can read what apps that are included with this TV is the features. I have personally downloaded Spectrum, ESPN and Disney + with no issues.
