“If this hood’s duct is 6” then would the vent hole of the wall to the outside of the house have to be 6” too? Our old vent hole is 4” and wondering if we need to increase size.”

Yes. You are right. It has to be 6 inches. The size of your old oppening has to be increased to accommodate 6 inch vent
