Yes, you can use a powder detergent, but it requires a HE or High Efficient detergent.

Also, do not use the liquid detergent container for powdered detergent, instead remove the container and put powder detergent directly into the main wash compartment.

You can use powders as long as it says for use if HE washers . And I spray a sanitizer in mine nice a month let it set for thirty min then run the Sanitizer option
