Yes, you can use powder detergent on this washer; however, there are some steps to follow when using powder detergent.

A:AnswerI have the pedestal and my sister built a riser. I use the pedestal for the soap and all the stuff I use. My sister uses her riser for storage for baskets for each person in her families laundry. Cost was about a little more for the pedestals than the riser. Difference was about $50
