Great question! The short answer is that the component video will give you a more accurate picture signal then composite. The long answer is that composite video uses RCA cables (red,white,yellow) to transmit info over the cable. Component uses Red, Green, Blue cables to more accurately transmit the video signal while still using the Red and white cables for audio. -MrSamsung
