    Great TV for the price

Easy set up, great directions. Was on sale and had great financing. Doesn't weigh much, which helped in the moving and set up. Sleek and attractive. Will look good in any location. If you register your product on line with Samsung, they extend your warrany by 3 months. I shopped around and this TV had a higher ratio and was a better price, so don't bother going to another store, get it at Best Buy. The sales associate at the Schaumburg Store, Christine was so nice and very helpful!

Bought this TV a month ago after a long time of comparison shopping. The price is about what I was looking to spend (give or take a hundred), and I was debating between the ln40a550 and the ln40b530. Went with this one primarily because of the weight diference and contrast ratio. The side by side comparison in store was a no brainer. The picture on this one just looked better. This TV looks AMAZING in HD. Standard def looks good, not great. Everyone writes that the speakers on this are bunk, but all you have to do is manually adjust the equalizer, and they sound just fine! One thing though, the description of this TV says it has side inputs, IT DOES NOT. Not that big a deal, you just need to swivel the TV to access the back if need be. Overall VERY GOOD TV at this price range.

    Good Entry Level LCD

I have owned a Vizio VX37L for 2 years and was ready for an upgrade. After doing some research and hearing excellent word of mouth from various sources on the internet that Samsung is of good quality, I decided to go with the very wallet friendly LN40B530. Upon unpacking the Samsung i discovered that there is some assembly required with the attaching of the stand to the TV. So make sure you have a partner ready to help you with the setup process. Its was very easy to attach so it could probably be done solo. After the a lengthy channel search and short base configuration everything was up and running. Just like with every HD Television, SD was not amazing. Very acceptable though. When it came to movies though i was blown away. The blacks are very good and everything looks crisp and colorful. I had the chance to test the tv out with Matrix Revolutions through my Xbox 360 Netflix Instant View. If i was amazed by a movie through a lower quality source such as that, i can only imagine how great a SD DVD or even a HD DVD will look. Video games look and play excellent. Although i did experience a bit of blur and trailing, i think that is a trait found in all LCDs and is unavoidable. So if your looking to use this as your main gaming setup, it might be best to test it out and see if you notice any issues. If you get this TV is insist that you have a external sound system to connect it to. The sound is one of the worst that i have heard from an LCD. This mostly is attributed to the fact the speakers are slightly covered and pointing downward. With tweaking I'm sure it is possible to get acceptable audio though. Lastly the remote is atrocious. Far to difficult to switch between inputs and just basically poorly laid out. This would be an ideal TV for the first time buyer. Those looking for an upgrade would probably be best to save money for a higher end system.

I bought this TV at my local Best Buy. I walked past their "tv wall" and this one looked just as good as some in the over-$2,000 range. I see no deficiency in its being "only" 60hz. The sound out of the box won't bowl you over but I liked it better once I adjusted the equalizer. The TV is nice and light and hooks up easily. The only assembly is to attach the stand which is no big deal. My previous unit was a Hitachi plasma EDTV, which I liked a lot, but this picture is just so much better. I'm very happy with my purchase.

Excellent Balance Between Quality and Price

This is my third Samsung TV. I have a large DLP in my basement, and this one is replacing a 8 year old glass CRT SD TV. I've always been a fan of Samsung's quality versus price in its mid-ranged TV's. This TV is no exception. The picture is great, even sports look great despite its 60Hz refresh rate. Pixelation in fast motion is only occasionally noticeable, but never bothersome. The viewing angle was important to me. This is the only TV on the TV wall that I could still really see from a full 178 degrees. It is still just as bright from an extreme angle as it is looking straight on. I have an upscaling DVD player and TiVo HD hooked up to this. I still have another HDMI port to add a game system. There are plenty of ports. I do wish there was a USB port for firmware upgrades or showing pictures. But, my TiVo shows pictures, so that's not a big bother. The sound is just ok. You will definitely need to play with the settings to get the sound just right. None of the built in defaults are quite right for me. The advertised volume leveling doesn't really seem to do much. All in all, I am very impressed with this TV. The quality versus price is really unbeatable. Go cheaper than this, and you'll notice a drop in quality.

    GREAT TV... GREAT sale price

This television (actually all my Samsung HDTVs - this is #3) was very easy to set up. I took it out of the box, put it on my stand, plugged in the HDMI, power, and component cables..and voila. Samsung has easy menus for configuration of tv capability to my U-verse signal. The blacks for this LCD are very good, and there are good selection choices to adjust color if you want. I like the movie contrast selection for most viewing, so that's the only change I made out of the box (other than setting 1080 on the tv and my Uverse box). EASY I agree with the previous reviewer that I don't see the need for 120hz yet. I mention the "not so great" part of this TV is "nothing I can fault Samsung for. What I mean by that is that TV broadcasting (signal) needs to be cleaner and better before I really think 120 or greater refresh rate will make a difference big enough for day to day television viewing and even football. It probably makes a difference on BluRay...but unless you're exclusively watching BluRay..why spend extra hundreds on the higher refresh rate? 60 is still good .. I'm very happy with this purchase. (as I have been with my other Samsung HDTVs). I rate picture 5 stars (use a power/signal filter and set your signal correctly!), and sound only 3.. really I don't know how good or bad it is. I use a receiver and 5.1 surround - not the tv speakers. And features? What features? I haven't wanted to mess around with any features yet... I'm just enjoying the crisp picture on my large screen.. My only suggestion of accessories is to definitely buy a Monster power filtering surge protector for the tv/cable signal and power outlets. It really does make a huge difference in your HD viewing.

    Amazing TV

I just got this TV on 5/1/09. I'm not big on writing reviews 1 day after i purchase an item, because last time i wrote a good review of a TV after i had purchased it it broke after 1 year. Any who, I bought this open box so it was only 699$. Great Deal!. The picture quality on this TV is FANTASTIC with HDMI. I use the HDMI for my PS3 and all the colors are vivid and just jump off the screen. For TV however i only have a Standard definition signal, but even on Standard def this TV looks really good! The Sound isn't the greatest, but it has many options to tweak it to your liking. (No TV unless you shell out the big bucks is gonna have fantastic sound. and if your like me and you have a smaller room the sound can be very good.) This TV has so many options to tweak the picture. So easy to set up, and so Powerful. 60:000:1 Contrast Ratio. 5ms Response time on a 60Hz TV is crazy. I was looking for a TV for a long time, I think i found my TV now!!! If you can Find This TV open box, jump on it and make sure you purchase the insurance cause you never know what your getting with open box as far of how much its been used. and what it has with it. But if you cant 899$ is still a great price for this TV. Your also getting the Quality and the assurance of a big name brand. I made the mistake of buying a cheap name brand last time and it ended with me not having a warranty, and the company went out of business so there was no more parts for it. I had to pay a repair man 54$ to tell me he couldn't fix my TV!!! all I can say is lesson learned!

A great HDTV. I bought this last week, went home and plugged it into my XBOX 360 and it looks amazing with just component cables - - I play Halo 3 on it and it looks great. It definitely gives me the edge. This was my first HDTV purchase and I'm glad I did my research. The price, brand name, and quality often don't balance out at such a high level. I don't know why people would complain about the sound, I'm in a 10' by 20' room and it sounds great. The display is crystal clear. I have a Samsung 22'' widescreen monitor for my computer that I just love, and this is basically that on steroids. The thing has very vibrant colors and the remotes pretty cool too. Felt like I was on the Enterprise the first time I used it. I have noticed this model is advertised at 5ms, I believe it is 6ms - - Correct me if I'm wrong, but this same model is advertised elsewhere @ 6 ms. A good question for customer service before you buy! However, It's still great for games and a great purchase. Make sure you have a good amount of space in your car if you're going to go pick this up, it wouldn't fit into my 03 Impala's trunk, and thats saying something. We ended up putting it in the backseat so if you have a wider car or pushdown seats you'll be fine. I highly recommend picking this up as its not worth the 100$ in this economy to have them deliver it. The Best Buy guy unloaded it into my car for me and refused my 5$ tip (I guess they get commission). Good service! But if it breaks in a year I'll be back spitting fire.

Great picture, sleek design, and easy set up. I compared the picture to that of cheaper brands and the Samsung is better. If you're going to get this size TV I recommend going for the Samsung. 60hz so fars seems plenty for movies and sports without any picture problems (and I've already watched quite a bit). Also has plenty of inputs when all the cheaper brands did not.

Pros: I recently bought this tv with best buy's 36 month same as cash program, which is an awesome deal, and the tv was a great price ($799 in 6/09)! I am just blown away with the color and clarity of the images i receive. I have hd cable and it really brings out the tv's potential. the set up was quick and painless, and even when the tv is not on it is still beautiful. In betweens: I have heard several complaints about the audio from the tv, but i run mine through a receiver anyways, so there are no problems. the audio and video are always perfectly in sync which is great. The only feature i think is lacking is that there is only 1 component in port. i have a ps2 and wii that each have component cables, so i went out a bought a cable that has multiple ends for multiple devices which works great. i have not yet upgraded to an hd receiver, so everything goes to the tv. however, if you have a decent hd receiver, the limited inputs will no longer be a factor and you will only be limited by the inputs on your receiver. Cons: I have no bad news with this tv. the only time to audio or the video lag, it is a cable transmission problem. when watching movies or playing games, there is never any lack of quality.

I was down to this set and a sony that was on sale for $799.00 but was last years model and not in stock. I decided to go with this over the sony even tho it was $100 more due to better contrast ratio, compairable color and sharpness of the picture and Samsung's good rep. I got it home and set up, which was not that hard at all. picture on analoge cable is good, clear digital programs on comcast are awsome. I connected my old Apex DVD player with composite line in jacks and the picture was better than I expected. The sound is perry good but could be a little better with more bass to it,but if you connect a surrond sound system to it this is not an issue at all. The remote is nice and has big easy to read buttons but its not a universal like some other brands include. I have Sony remote that I set up to use for all my stuff so thats not a problem anymore. over all I am very pleased with this set's picture and a price match to this weeks sale price of $799 has me loving it even more.

Calibrate the TV and it solves most of the issues below. My calibrated RGB grayscale is better than most of the reviews in magazines. My grouping in the 20%-100% gray scale calibration is better than LCD TV's costing 3K or more. I am sure the magazines do better calibration than I do so it shows how good of quality of LCD TV this is. I see the guy below talks about the blacks not being great. I bet he has his lamp setting at 10 and brightness turned way up. (this is the way it comes out of the box) Uncalibrated I would use movie setting as it was closest to the 6500 color standard. This screen uncalibrated was better than a few friends plasma TV. For games make sure you turn on game mode and you wont care about it lacking the 120HZ setting. So buy this TV and make sure you adjust it to movie setting for a good set of colors. I also recommend that you turn down lamp setting (this is true for all LCD TV's) I use a 4 lamp setting but most would be happier with a 5.

    Nice Flatscreen

This was our first flatsreen TV purchase. At the store, I didn't think it would look as good as it does. We got it home, set it up, and we were excited. When we turned it on, the picture was blurry. At first I didn't know what it was, but then I came to realize that it was the Coax cable. The TV speaker is not something I like. It is not terrible, but its just like your everyday integrated TV speaker. So, the next day after church, we went to best buy. We bought a Monster Coax cable, HDMI Cable, Optical Cable, and a Sony Home Theatre System. We came home, and set up everything. We turned on the TV and the picture was great. The only thing it is missing is the Tru Motion Refresh Rate. This TV, however, has a really good picture and does not give a strongly noticeable blur with moving objects. Later on, I set the AV Modes. Those do make a difference. I especially enjoy game mode. We later bought a Wii, and it looks great, along with other game systems I have.

this is my first experience with HDTV, so my excitement is not only about this particular model. I have optimum cablevision HD hooked up. The picture (except for the caveat below) is amazing - just breathtaking. The machine has a sleek look, is light and easy to move, has a built in swivel of appx 20-25 degrees. I would have liked the remote to be able to control my cable and DVD. it doesn't. so i programmed my cable remote to control the tv. switching from cable input to DVD input should be easier. 1) it needs the TV's remote 2) it takes way more key strokes on the remote than it should the picture looses a lot of it's sharpness when there's fast action

Love the Tv for the price and quality. My brother worked at Circuit city for years before they went under and always said that Samsung gives you the best picture for the money. I bought this and am not disapointed. Picture is great after viewing for a month. Price is also awesome. My advice would be to save some money and go for the 60hz refresh rates because when watching sports you cant tell the difference between 60hz and 120hz. But the price is way higher for the latter. Sound blows just like most hdtvs but you get use to it. I hooked up receiver and nice speakers to it but as i said you get use to it anyways and its not a big deal unless you hear it next to awesome speakers. Great buy for a tv. dont spend hundreds more new technology

I bought this TV yesterday after going in to buy an LG. I knew samsung made great TVs and this one caught my eye. So I bought it and here is what I have to say: 1) The picture is great. No it's not the same quality as a 120hz refresh rate but I still think it beats the picture on alot of them. 2) The price is a steal in my book. I've seen the sony's, sharps and panasonics...the toshiba's, vizio's at walmart, and even samsung/best buys off brand "Insignia" This one looked the best 3) The sound is ok, but when you are buying a tv over 37" you really do need a to buy a sound system... What's the deal with cheap batteries in expensive products? You would think they would at least give you some decent batteries, oh well

This TV is my first venture into LCD's. After a huge amount of time spent looking at reviews, prices and features I decided to go with this Samsung. The picture quality is amazing for a 900 dollar set, especially when hooked up to my 360 through HDMI for games and DVDs. There is little to no trailing or blurring, even in the fastest moving games (GTA 4 for example). The only problem I had with the TV is that when connected to a standard TV signal there is some noticeable blurring if you are closer than 10 feet from the set, which isn't a problem with my living room set up. HD channels look amazing! The colors of this TV are incredible, and rival that of TV's in the $1500 dollar range. I only wish I had the extra 600 bucks to spend for the 120htz processor to take care of some of the trailing effects during extremely fast motion sequences. The sound is adequate for watching TV at night or when you don't need it loud, and I would recommend a home theater system for when you do want things to go BOOM! I would highly recommend this TV to anyone with a budget. The 900 dollar price tag is close to that of bargain brands, but with picture quality that blows anything in that price range out of the water, and rivals TV's going for double that price!

I purchased this tv actually in Omaha NE at Nebraska Furniture Mart when I was actually looking for some furniture about a year and 2 months. At first I had just over the air HD channels then decided to get hd cable. Now I have Dish HD and wow, after daily use for at least couple hours every day, it consistently works with no issues. I did absolutely no research on this tv at all, pretty much just compared the pictures from other sets, this one won hands down. I did purchase the optional extended warranty so of course I haven't had any issues, had I not, probably would have died a day after the manufactures warranty ran out. I gave this to my parents for the family room since their Hitachi projection screen tv of 8 years died. I am buying another one, to replace it, however in 120hz. My parents are in their 50's and love it. It is hooked up via monster hdmi cables to the sat and also the sony dvd sound system as I didn't like the speakers. I have always had my tv hooked up to a sound system. With all these electronics these days made in China, I just hope my next one works as good as this one. I think the other brands probably have the same issues ie not turning on, just quit, etc. lets face it they are all made in China. And as always, now this tv is about $300 less than last year, but at least I did get 0% for 3yrs.

If you are looking for a sub 1k$ 1080p lcd television then I would recommend this TV. The picture is nice quality. My only complaint is that the blacks aren't dark enough for what I want.I rarely watch any STD channels so I can't say anything about the STD picture. My Blu-ray movies and gaming look great though. The sound is where this product fumbles a bit. The speakers aren't very clear and are just not very good. Aside from that the I'm happy with the product.

The tv is working well... Although I don't use HD broadcasting normal tv is fine on it... My dvd player works extremely well with it and looks beautiful and I don't need to use the speakers ever but from what I have heard from them they sound perfectly fine. My only complaints is they didn't put enough screws in the box for mounting it to the swivel stand and the remote doesn't work for the first five minutes the tv is on... I don't understand why that is but other than these two minor problems the tv is everything I was looking for. Next I'm thinking about the blue ray/surround combo samsung offers.
