Great picture. Granted, it's only 60 Hz, so a lot of fast motion isn't crystal clear, but it's not very noticeable. Sound isn't great, but it's good for a TV. I have a surround sound system so that isn't really an issue. Good amounts of inputs and outputs; more than I need actually. I have my xbox 360, blu-ray home theater combo, wii, and computer (which is really cool) all hooked up to the TV, with more slots to spare. Very satisfied.

A gift for my mom

I got this for my mom since I have a similar model. First of all, plasmas are better than LCD's in my opinion. If someone tells you plasmas have issues with burn-in, then slap them. Okay, don't slap them, but don't believe them. I don't think they can burn in any more than a tube TV could. This Samsung has a great HD picture. The SD quality isn't bad, but that's not why you bought this. If you buy an HDTV and don't have HD going to it, then that's like buying a Corvette and never driving over 20 mph. My advice is to go to CNET's site and put in your model # and "calibration" to get a starting point for the best specs for your viewing pleasure. Watching an HDTV straight out of the box will probably blind you in a matter of months. LOL! The TV collects dust like no other. Having said that, it's easy to get rid of it. The sound isn't overwhelming, but it's not that bad at all. The menu has a lot of options, but the instruction manual really doesn't help you figure out what they're for. Sure, there's a description, but most people haven't a clue on when to use it. I hate I don't have anything groundbreaking about this TV, but it is what it is: a solid, excellent quality, great price TV that your friends will envy.

I purchased a LN40A530 six months ago and love it…quality, sound, everything about it is great. The only issue is that it will not fit in our new cabinet so I went out and purchased the LN40B530 couple of days ago because it is 2 inches smaller.
While the TV is indeed a bit smaller that is not all that has changed - I am disappointed that SAMSUNG has taken the path of providing less in order to achieve an artificial price point.
The new LN40B530 has a number of missing features –
No audio jack to allow for private listening
No side inputs that allow for a quick connection to a camera or playstation unit.
No backlit remote – very nice feature on the previous unit and speaking of remotes (the new remote seems to have less features and also seems flimsier) .
So my recommendation is to find an older LN40A530 at a possibly discounted price (much better value)

My only real complaint is that the TV only has one component input - my Wii, PS2 (yes... PS2), and DVD player all feature component as their only hi-def output (technically the Wii only supports enhanced definition). I'll be getting an HDMI-supporting DVD player soon, but I'll need to get an external source selector for the Wii and PS2.
The good news is that the TV has 3 HDMI inputs as well as a VGA input (with RCA sound inputs). I can hook up my laptop using high resolution (and watch Hulu.com in hi-def!) and the 3 HDMI inputs mean I have room to grow for a few years.
I'm picky with TV brands, so while Samsungs may cost more than say, Vizio or Sceptre, I'm comforted by the fact that it comes from one of the top manufacturers. Having worked in a TV repair shop, I know that Samsungs are much easier to get replacement parts for and also repair manual availability is higher. This means that if the TV ever breaks after warranty, repairs will be much cheaper and less stressful.

Amazing TV, For the price UNBEATABLE

I bought this TV a week ago and I could not have been happier. I had read some reviews that said the speakers were not good but for my medium shaped bedroom this TV does more than deliver. At 50% volume it sounds virtually surround. The picture is spectacular and the remote control is handy and very easy to use. My only complaint is that there are only 3 HDMI inputs and no side inputs, which would be convenient. I have a BluRay upconvert player, Comcast, and a PS3. If i wanted to add in a HD Sound system i would have no where to connect without buying an expensive reciever. I know some people are wondering why i would have a Bluray player and a PS3 and mostly was because i have over 150 DVDs that would not be near HD quality if played through the PS3 and the BluRay player also connects wirelessly to the internet for a netflix subscription, which simply can not be beat. For this price I could not imagine buying ANY other TV.

I purchased this tv for my master bedroom after returning the Insignina 42" 120hz under Best Buy's 30 day return policy and I'm so glad I did. Although the Insigna was good, it wasn't as good as my 52" Samsung LCD 650 in my living room that i purchased a year ago. The color's do not need any calibration out of the box and it appears very true to life, perfect brightness in bright light or dark, great dark scene contrast, and good speakers if you don't plan to use external surround sound. There is NO glare issue with this set and the view angle is virtually unliminted. I know that everyone is marketing the 120 hz refresh rate, and although it makes sense on paper, i'm not sure how necessary it is. I have been watching alot of football and hockey this past year on my 60 hz samsung and i don't recall every losing a puck or having a football 'skipping' across the screen. I am totally satisfied with both of my Samsung 60 hz sets and a year from now 120 hz will probably be the new standard, but i don't see the necessity to pay extra for it now. Once you own a Samsung.. i think everything else will fall just short of meeting your expectations. Highly recommended!!

Great general use television

I purchased this tv for my new apartment. I wanted a 40" tv that was not too expensive and had a good picture. I set it up a week ago and I am very pleased with it. I have not had to make any adjustments because it has a nice crisp and clear picture right out of the box. The sound is also very good.
My only problem is that there is only 1 video input. I have a surround sound system and a DVD player that are a few years old. I also have a Nintendo Wii system. In order to connect all three items to the tv, I have to unplug the video input of the DVD player so that I can plug in the video input of the Wii because there is only 1 video input. (Kind of annoying) But this problem will be easily solved when I purchase some component video cables.
If you are looking for a great general use tv this is the perfect choice.

Excellent HDTV

I checked out several HDTV's prior to settling on this Samsung. There were many good deals out there so I did my homework on what brands were the best. I narrowed it down to 3 manufacturers but the Samsung had the right features for what I was looking for.
First off, the HDTV tuner is great. I use an antenna for my local channels and this tuner pulls in more channels that are far clearer than the tuner box I previously used. The picture on this tv is crisp bright and clear. It is by far the best picture I have had in home. Every signal I use from DVD's to Netflix streaming video ( thru my xbox 360 ) look fantastic.
The remote is a large and easy to use. I especially like the source menu. I have a number of components hooked up to this tv including my pc, cable, xbox 360, DVR and a blueray player. The source menu shows you a list of your component inputs and when to arrow up to a specific input it shows you what that component is and what is currently showing on that component before you choose it. Very nice.
I paid $700 for this TV and am very happy with the purchase. Highly recommend looking at Samsung for your next HDTV LCD purchase.

I bought my 40" Samsung at the Torrance Best Buy. Got the TV home, opened up the box put the TV on the stand and used the 4 supplied screws to screw it in...I connected my surround sound. Hooked it up to my Verizon Fios standard Definition box..and WOW..that's it. No problem...done...amazing picture for a non HD picture. So I then hooked up my HD box from my other room just to see what it looks like. I was blown away. For the $800 bucks I paid for the TV..you cant beat it. I think Samsung has a great product and will buy another Samsung. I don't know what other people see when they write bad reviews on this TV...maybe it's there cable or satellite service. You cant go wrong with Verizon Fios. I would recommend this TV to anyone..trust me..i was a little uncertain at first because I have never bought Samsung. I have only owned Sony or Vizo LCD's. I have found a new TV source. SAMSUNG...finally a company gets it right.

This is the best buy for your money, it leave's you enough to buy that Blu ray to complete the Video experience if ya feels me? Picture is great and bright, plus with 3 default picture modes, its great for gaming in dynamic, watching tv in normal, or for movies...in movie mode. Football even looks great in HD. I have this hooked up to my Xbox 360 Elite via HDMI and digital optical to my 5.1 surround, best gaming experience or great for movie lovers if your into that Netflix. Get this TV, its great. Remote is definitely not the best, it has to be pointed right at the sensor in the bottom corner, but if you get a Samsung Blu ray player, you can sync them together which I thought was cool and simple, or if you have the comcast remote, that's the best. Hope this was helpful if you your interested in the TV. Plus the 40incher is a perfect size.

I bought this 40" samsung to replace my 32" analog set and was expecting it to be a much better picture and it was. I hooked up the HDMi cable, (seperate perchase) and got a great picture. The problem was the sound, it is really bad. Come to find out that the speakers are only 8-10 watts or ohms compared to 40-60 in my old analog set. That explains it to me. I'll need to use my surround sound system a lot more, or a sound bar if that's what you have. But that's ok some times I like it better anyway. When you buy an HD tv, your paying for a better picture.

I was hoping this was going to be a great TV for watching TV and also to use with my PS3 (HDMI). I notice much more input lag then I would like and there seems to be some slight ghosting which is annoying for a hardcore gamer like me.
'Game Mode' doesnt seem to really do much except make the screen a lot brighter. I still use it but set the power saving to Medium. Picture quality is pretty good, but I am not able to enjoy as much when there is some slight ghosting and input lag.
Watching TV looks pretty good with my Comcast HD box using component cables.

Got this TV on Superbowl Sunday (how cliche are we?) The game looked just OK. I called our cable provider (realizing that cable box had sound issues - thought it was old TV, but had same issues w/ new one) and they came out with an HDMI cord, an updated cable box and programmed the TV for me. We pay for HD box/service, so I guess that's why we got the cord... anyways, with the new box/cord, the picture is PERFECT. Don't pay for an HDMI cord if you have HD service through your cable provider - they'll give you one. If you don't have an issue that requires a service call, you can go to a cable service center and pick up a cord. It DOES make a HUGE difference. Before cable guy came out, my husband was ready to return the TV, now he (and I!) LOVE it!

Nice TV with a couple shortcomings

Bought this TV for a great price at $799. For the most part I love it. Sound isn't an issue since I use surround-sound anyhow, and I have to say the picture can't be beat...until you get rapid action/camera pans, etc. I noticed watching a pretty typical fight-scene during a HD broadcast movie on NBC, that the picture distorted and pixelated the entire time. It's VERY noticeable and disappointing. I have it hooked up via HDMI and still the problem exists.
Otherwise, really impressed by this TV especially for the pricepoint.

I just bought this TV yesterday from instore and I love it! I took it out of the box and a minute later had it on my tv stand ready to use. What I really like about it that my other tv doesnt have (The 42" Insignia) each input can have its own video settings which I really really enjoyed. I havent been able to hook it up to HDTV yet but my Xbox 360 and Wii look amazing on it. You do not want to miss out on this deal. I did a lot of research before I decided to get this because it was only 100 dollars more than my last tv (42'' Isignia) and 100 dollars cheaper than thte Sony Bravia I was looking at but it had a better contrast ratio and price so it was almost a no-brainer. I have no regrets about buying this tv so far.

Before I bought this Samsung, I bought a 40 inch Sony Bravia LCD. It was garbage the picture quality was poor and it would change its video settings from vivid to cinema mode every 5 seconds by itself, which would get annoying. I returned it and got the same model tv and the same thing happened. Then I returned the sony and bought this Samsung 40LNB530 and I'm happy I did. The picture quality was such an improvement. HD looks perfect, The colors really stick out. Even regular cable does not look bad at all. I also have my xbox 360 connected to it and it looks very good, and does not have a delay with fast movement. I would definitely recommend this set to anyone, good value. Looks awesome in my bedroom.

I bought this TV about a week ago and all I can say is this was a great buy. I looked at TV's for about a month and I have owned two other 42" flat panel TV's. My sister and brother-in-law have a Sony Bravia and I have to say that the picture on this TV is as good if not better than the Sony, but for about $400 cheaper. I'm not quite sure why some people's reviews said the sound was only fair on this TV. Unless you hook-up surround sound, you should epect factory speaker quality. Bottom line - the picture is amazing with HD and the sound is very good. If you want a high end TV for a good price, this is the one to buy!

Ordered on-line because of sale price Friday night, picked up in store Saturday morning. Easy initial setup although I made picture and sound adjustments to my preference. Digital picture is good but I then got a High-Def box from my cable company and the High-Def picture is great. Sound is average, OK for regular TV programs, but I will eventually hook up an external sound system for movies and music. Overall, a good buy for a little over $700.
