Can only be used up until just shortly before the rinse cycle starts.

There is a period of time you can add items. Half the time, mine doesn't work and I just pause it and open the door to add an item.

As long as the "shirt" light is on during the cycle, the machine can be paused and the second door can be opened. From what I can tell, this light is visible with any cycle.
