There is a pause button that stops the washer and unlocks the lid to allow adding what you need. Once the lid is closed and pause button resumed it relocks the lid and continues wash.

I spoke directly with a Samsung customer representative last week and was advised, once you stop cycle, the washer will stop and when you open locked lid any wash , rinse , etc. water will immediately drain. Therefore, you have to restart your wash cycle and add additional detergent and fabric softener to continue wash.
