Hi, The 3 and the 5 mean the number of tweeter speakers in the soundabr. The .1 means the number of subwoofers that can be supported by the soundbar at a time.

Speakers are positioned L-C-R (left, center, and right) and the sub should be on the ground level in the center. Center channel is usually used for dialogue, while the L and R channels are used for ambience, music, effects, and other stereo sounds. 5.1 is a much more common configuration in consumer audio.5.1 is a 6-channel sound system consisting of 5 speakers and one subwoofer (LFE): FL-C-FR-SL-SR-LFO.
