Woody: Soundbars are not necessary, but are a great option to improve audio clarity in a Home Theater experience. ^Gina
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.A sound bar is not required, as the TV has built in speakers, but as mentioned by someone else, a sound bar will definitely provide much better sound. Before I purchased one I did tweak the sound settings on the TV and got it to sound "better" but it is not very good in and of itself. A sound bar dramatically improves the sound! HOWEVER, if you want to control the volume of the sound bar using the TV remote you will need to be very specific in what type of sound bar you get. Just getting one that connects via Toslink Optical (for example) will not work for volume control unless it's a specific Samsung sound bar and then I think the TV just turns it on/off automatically. A sound bar that supports HDMI Arc should allow you to control volume. If you have a universal remote though then it doesn't really matter. Hope this helps.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes and no. The TV itself sounds OK alone but so much better with it, especially with action movies or shooter games like COD.
