It varies, different artwork has different effects and background lighting. I can dim or alter almost all of the artwork that I have used and the mattings and framing highlights are just awesome. So it gives you a fair amount of control on the effect you are after. I love this TV and did a lot of research before purchasing it. As the light in the room gets lighter or darker the Frame also gets brighter or darker.

The television has a feature that dims the picture if the light in the room is low. This can be turned off if you don't want it. Oil paintings look less realistic the closer you get. Photographs look just like a photograph would under glass. Maybe even better.

You can still see the art in dim light. The colored art stands out more than the black and white art. It is fun to change the image as often as you choose
