• Mine doesn't open easily either. I can only surmise they are building expected wear into the design and it will eventually loosen up.

• There is a small tab on the top that you pull to fold it open/flat. It took me a while to figure out haha

• mine doesn't open easy even my husband cant open it. i have to put a paper towel and squeeze my hand in to clean it.

• When you take the dryer vent out you should be able to open it up and then clean it.
