“How do you secure this dishwasher when mounting under a granite countertop? Do I need support brackets for the sides?”

• More than likely there's cabinetry between the granite and top of the dishwasher so the securing bracket would be screwed into that wood. At least mine was. If by chance it cannot be secured to the top, there is an option to secure the unit via side-mounted screws (on both sides) into adjacent cabinetry.
