Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.You can configure it to either come on with a motion sensor, or only come on when the fridge is accessed. This includes opening the door or using the water dispenser. We turned off the motion sensor, as we like having our family photos display for a couple of hours. If the motion sensor is toggled on, then when you walk by, the photos turn off and the last screen used displays (home, or calendar, etc.) As to how close, I'm not sure... definitely does not trigger after 5 feet (walkway plus width of our center island). But you can configure how long you want the display to stay lit. Separate setting for how long the screen-saver stays lit.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The screen is not always on. It wakes with a motion sensor that activates from about 2 feet away from it. You can set the time in the options screen for how long you want the screen to black out after being activated.
