It's pretty well insulated. I've only used the top oven for now which fits up to 2 racks of baking. I was taking pictures of the rolls I was baking, and I had my phone right up to the glass with the lights on and didn't feel anything except a touch of light warmth, but not hot. There's also an insulator panel between the top and botto that can be removed, which allows the heat to stay primarily in the oven you're using. In this case, the top only.
