“I've read that the Note8 doesn't have a removable battery. What happens when the battery needs to be replaced, are you stuck buying a new phone? B/C like clock work as soon as the1 year warranty ends on the battery that's when you have to buy a new one.”

The battery can be replaced by a third party source or even by Samsung. The waterproof feature might be compromised with third party replacement.

Please try again later.When the battery dies, which it maybe be in about 4 or 5 years in average, you can take it to either Samsung or to a place where phones get repaired. The battery degrades with time, but it maybe long enough for you to get an upgrade when the time comes, unless you plan to use it for more than 5 years or so, then you need to replace the battery
