It is because screen is always measured diagonally. But phone sizes are always given in rectangular lengths. You can use the Pythagorean theorem to estimate the diagonal of a rectangle, which can be expressed with the following formula: d² = l² + w² Then, to get the exact formula for finding the diagonal of a rectangle, take a square root. d = √ (l² + w²) In this case, S22 is 5.75" x 2.78". Hence, based on above formula, the d aka diagonal can be up to 6.39". However, since the phone has frame, Samsung were able to fit only 6.1" inch of screen. I hope this clarifies your question.
