I believe you would still have to pay for Verizon service in the US as well, otherwise you have to pay the early termination fee. This may be moot, as I doubt they will let you sign up for the installment plan given you are leaving the country soon. Verizon runs credit and ID checks on anyone who signs up for an installment plan.
