Samsung tab A works fine for the apps I use. Not sure exactly what the requirements for Minecraft are but I play Township and others like it. In my opinion I think it should work for your child.

Yes, I got this as a replacement for my old (very first generation) Kindle Fire and it's played every game I've tried just fine (haven't tried Minecraft but I don't see why not). It's not the fastest in the world but it'll get the job done.

I use it for Roblox and and other games (I haven't tried Minecraft) it works great with the games I've played.
