No this is not a traditional smart watch. It needs the phone to do all "smart" functions. Without the phone it won't notify you of email, texts, or anything. You also can't talk on this watch anyway. If you answer a call it sends it straight to your phone.

I’m pretty sure it pairs with any Samsung phone. Your watch will still work without your phone.
