Text messages can be received/sent right from the watch, while with phone calls, you will need to use either your phone or a bluetooth headset with the watch, as it has no speaker. Let me just say that I believe for the price tag on this, even without having the speaker built in, you will not be disappointed. I know, I was a bit bummed about it at first, but after thinking about it, I almost always have these devices on me anyways.
