“I saw a previous question about swimming with the watch and an answer was that it can be used when swimming, just not in salt water. Why is this? If I have a salt water pool and rinse the watch as soon as I am done working out, would that be okay?”

Mine has been fine in saltwater. As long as you rinse it with fresh water afterward there shouldn't be an issue.
