You've got an average of 30 feet, before your watch disconnects from bluetooth and disables the internet, but you can always use wifi. Otherwise you'll have to activate it with your carrier, to be independent. But, at least with my carrier, it's not worth it.

Yes. In settings scroll to connections and there are choices for Bluetooth On/Off, WiFi On/Off/Auto/Always On/Always Off, NFC On/Off, and Airplane Mode On/Off. With WiFi enabled it will scan for available WiFi networks. You may need a password to log into secure networks.
