u can receive calls and text in both, the difference is in the gps version, u need to keep your phone conect to the watch via bluetooth to do it, because the watch use the phones plan to make and receive calls and text. in the gps+celular u need to put a celular plan, i thing it cost around $10 or so

Both versions allow for receiving calls and text. As long as you turn on the wifi.
