Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The device is not spring loaded to the open position, so two hands work best to open or close it. It is possible to open or close it with one hand if necessary although it is much less graceful than how it was done on Star Trek. Seems to be a durable device with a metal hinge. It is not a flimsy device but how many years it will last probably depends on how much abuse it gets rather than its construction as is the case with most cell phones.
