As far as I know, you just need to check phone compatibility on the Samsung website and/or be able to download, install and run the Samsung Gear app. I recently upgraded to the Sprint HTC U11, which was not on the compatible list at the time of purchase, but I was able to run the Gear app and I'm able to use full functions of my watch!

This version of the S3 Frontier does NOT have cellular capabilities. It will connect with any Android or iOS phone that can run the meets the requirements to run the app. It doesn't care what carrier you use, but it connects to your phone, not the carrier. When not connected to your phone by BT, it has no stand-alone calling capabilities.
