• Hi MarkB, You can control your Soundbar's volume using the TV remote when connected with a Digital Optical cable. To be able to adjust the Soundbar's Sound Modes or different settings you will need to use the included Soundbar remote. ~Samsung Solutions

• In my experience, my Samsung TV controlled the volume. The sound bar remote has some settings which you cannot change without the remote. If you plan to 'set it and forget it' (as I do) you can configure the sound bar with the sound bar remote and then set it aside and use just the TV remote.

• You can only control the sound with the sound bar controller and I have tried it only has one volume and mute
