Hi welzjd! We recommend placing the HW-Q900A Soundbar directly in front of you and preferably at ear level for the best audio quality; however, you can place it above your TV if you would like! The Q900A Soundbar features Dolby Atmos/DTS:X technologies and 2 up-firing channels that use the walls and ceilings of your space to produce a more immersive experience; you may find you prefer the audio experience delivered from this soundbar when placed above your TV. ^Gina
