If I were you I would put them on the wall, behind your sofa 1 on left and 1 on the right on either end of your sofa. You can go to Amazon and get some wall hangers and hang them on the wall that's where they really belong.

If you are unable to place the rear speakers behind you, you can position the speakers off to the side, however they are designed to produce reach channel surround sound, or the ambient sounds behind the listener. ^Tim
