“Has anyone had a problem with there screen being damaged? I barely got the computer and there is a fine line crack on the left side of the screen. Also would a screen protector help so that won't happen again?”

I doubt a screen protector would do anything unless you drop it. Do a refund if it isn't passed 30 days.
