Thickness (Without Stand) 3.0" (7.7 cm)

When the monitor is all the way down there is no more than 3 inches of space from the bottom of the housing to the surface, likely slightly less than that.

For safety I would say 18 inches to leave yourself a little wiggle room if you're worried at all about space.
