This washer has a detergent dispenser that you fill before each wash and it releases the dish detergent at the appropriate time during the cycle. That was plenty automatic for my needs. I'm not sure what that specification is referring to - perhaps a dispenser that one loads once with a large volume of detergent that is released over the course of a number of loads?
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. On the back side of the door there is a gray plastic dish that you must load with detergent that has a door that slides over it from the right of it. This opens during the cycles the machine goes through. The manual states that if you want to put extra detergent in it you can just put a blob of it on the right side which the door had previously covered . (This obviously will be used in the first cycle it runs.)
