“How does this not damage the phone? I'm hesitant to purchase because exposing the phone to enough UV light to sanitize just seems like the phone would be eventually damaged somehow.”

While UV light will cause the plastic to become brittle over time the cycle on this is only 10 minutes, it would take many years for this to even start to damage your phone. Think about how many times you have left your phone outside on a table or on the dash of your car, that will probably cause more damage than this will for the few years you will have your phone. I hope this helps you decision for this product.
