You don't have to enter a password right away. You only have to put a password if you enable the software that is in the folder of the usb drive!

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I had no need of the vault software either, so I just formatted the drive to remove it. The device will still function properly without it. The only thing you need to check is what format your dvr will recognize (NTFS, FAT, etc...) and you can use your computer to format it.
