It is certainly compatible with a Mac as that is what I use it with, although you might have to reformat the drive according to your purposes. I'm not familiar with the 1080 files other than as a video resolution, but no immediate reason it wouldn't be occurs to me. However, careful research as to your intended purposes is recommended.
