Desktop Questions? Will a normal 2012 HP desktop have connectors already available. Or will additional cables be needed. I know I have several power connectors loose but what about data?

If it has SATA connector for then HDD the Yes. 
2012 HP should be fine. Comes with SATA cable included.

Your 2012 computer should have a sata cable already connecting your spinning hard-drive - so if you are replacing your spinning hard-drive just use that data cable. If the solid state drive is in addition to your existing drive you will have to purchase an additional sata cable.

Highly unlikely that there would be any sata data cables available as extras in your tower. And I'd make sure that the extra power you spoke of is the flat, black 15 pin sata power connector or you might want to pick up a 4 pin Molex to sata adaptor. In other words, don't assume. It would absolutely be worth the extra 5 minutes to open that box up and snap a couple photos for the guy on the sales floor you're trying to describe it to.

Yes it should have all of the connectors. You may need a bracket for mounting

Check your model on HP site, look for SATA II or III compatibility. It may be compatible and you may need to buy cables (about 2 bucks on eBay)

I got this for my 2011 laptop and it worked perfectly

It probably has a SATA drive in it, if you are replacing it, simply use that one. Otherwise I would look inside and see.
