While I haven't checked the specs, I would imagine that it is compatible. It is the right size, and it works fine in my Mac Mini (2012). https://www.ifixit.com/Search?query=MacBook%20Pro%202010

Follow the iFixit guide (https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/MacBook+Pro+15-Inch+Unibody+Mid+2010+Hard+Drive+Replacement/3030) for steps on how to replace your drive. Once done, grab your copy of macOS 10.12 or 10.13 and install it as you would when you are doing a system restore from scratch.

As long as your existing HDD uses the SATA interface (which it should), then you should be fine to use this drive. If you clone your existing HDD to this new SSD before installing it, the whole process is easy as pie. You'll need some way to connect to the new drive in order to do that though. I used an external case for HDDs that I already had on hand but if you don't have a suitable case already then you'll need to buy a HDD dock or some other means to connect the USB on your computer to the SATA on the new drive. I'm super happy with my upgrade so far. :)
