• Yes you can leave it for 24hrs, but would recommend a plug in hard drive, so that when it heats up, it will not fail like a flash drive over time.

• Yes that works. You just need to make sure that you format the drive to whatever your router support. Once that you will have to configure your share folder using the webpage of your router.

• Assuming your router supports USB drives as network storage, I would expect so. I have used them with ASUS routers.
