It works just great on my Mac mini without a hitch!

If your iMac has a 64GB or less hard drive, yes it can be used for Time Machine. But if the data on your iMac is more than 64GB, then no. It won't work because the capacity is too small.

Not sure if you can reformat the flash drive and space is enough. I will use an external hard drive instead.

It is compatible with Mac iOS 10.5 or higher additional software is required that can be downloaded for Mac
