“Will you be able to use both SSD and HHD? I have a pc and I can use both. I'll download certain games for a faster performance which will only be like 2 or 3 if you're lucky. I doubt they'll have it that the only way you can play x series games is on ssd”

Series X specific games WILL ONLY BE PLAYABLE on the internal SSD *or* this expansion card SSD. Read the last sentence again to let it sink in. External USB drives, HDD & SDD alike, can be used for any backward compatible games from previous xbox generations. External USB drives DO NOT SUPPORT Series X games. Period.

Please try again later.According to Microsoft, the xbox series x games will only work with the NVME ssd due to read/write speeds and other programming within the architecture. If you try, you may experience some crashing and other issues. As far as using a previous expandable hdd, you could still play your previous gen xbox one and xbox 360 games off of them without an issue. You just wont get the "fast" loading times the new xbox x series has to offer. PC gamer here, not buying the new xbox since my current PC will out perform it regardless

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The Series X titles will need to be installed on an SSD in order to play them. You can still store Series X titles on an external HD, you’ll just need to move them to the internal SSD or pick up an SSD Expansion card to run them. Microsoft did confirm there will be non-proprietary SSD expansion options in the future, but none are currently certified to work with the Series X as of yet. You can still play all backwards compatible games from an external HD, but if you want the Series X enhanced versions, you’ll need to boot them from the SSD. Hope this helps!
